JUI-F chief Fazl-ur Rehman escapes second suicide bomb attack in two days
March 31st, 2011 - 4:49 pm ICT by ANICharsadda, Mar 31(ANI): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur Rehman had another narrow escape on Thursday when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the politician’s convoy at Charsadda district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
At least twelve people, including a policeman, were killed in the suicide blast, which occurred near the District Coordination Officer (DCO) office in Charsadda, Samaa TV reports.
Hospital sources confirmed that 29 people were also injured in the attack, and have been admitted for urgent treatment.
The blast occurred at a place where Maulana Fazl was expected to address a public gathering, and former chief minister Akram Durrani and sacked minister Azam Swati were also with the JUI-F chief.
“I am fine, the blast damaged my jeep and some soldiers in my convoy are injured,” Geo News quoted Maulana Fazl, as saying.
Eyewitnesses said that bodies were scattered all around soon after the explosion while the injured were seen crying for help.
Just a day back, Maulana Fazl had escaped unhurt when a suicide bomber blew up his explosives near a police check post in Swabi district, killing at least seven people- including a policeman- on the spot.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi Jabbar Khan, a suicide bomber had detonated the explosives tied to his body when the police stopped him from crossing the check post near Swabi Interchange on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway. (ANI)
