Jim Carrey writes self-help book on depression

March 17th, 2008 - 6:52 pm ICT by admin -

Washington, Mar 17 (ANI): Canadian-American actor Jim Carrey is writing a self-help book for sufferers of depression who do not want to use drugs to treat the condition.

Carrey, who had himself gone through years of depression after his meteoric rise to fame in the 1990s, had been using Prozac and other medicinal drugs to try and control his dark thoughts.

The 46-year-old actor stated that trying to numb the pain with medication was not the way to get rid of the problem, and that he hopes his book will be able to help people to focus on what is causing the problem.

“I dealt with depression for a while by medicating with Prozac and although it was good for dealing with the problem there and then, I wasn’t getting to the bottom of my anger and frustration, Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“I think we have a real problem these days in that everything is treated with a drug. I think there’s a whole new way of healing depression that doesn’t require drugs, and I’m writing a book about it. Who better than a comedian to talk about depression right?” he added. (ANI)

I think Jim Carrey’s book will be a fabulous help to those of us who believe that depression should not always be treated with medication.

There are many ways of dealing with depression and working through your issues and establishing triggers are the first steps towards emotional well being.
