Karachi, Nov.14 (ANI): Expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh’s controversial yet famous book ‘Jinnah: India-Partition-Independence’ would hit bookstalls in Pakistan next month.
However, even before the original copies of the book are made available to the readers, pirated versions of the much discussed book are already available across Pakistan, which has worried publishers.
“Not only in the city of Karachi, but in almost all the major cities of Pakistan, the pirated copies of the book are being sold,” said Oxford University Press (OUP) Pakistan Managing Director Ameena Saiyid.
When asked why it took the OUP so much time to publish the book in Pakistan, Saiyid said there were some issues with the writer (Jaswant Singh), which has been sorted out now.
“Since the matters had been resolved, the book was being sent for printing and it would be available in the local market from next month,” The Daily Times quoted her, as saying.
Following complaints filed by OUP, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had carried out a countrywide crackdown on publishers and sellers of counterfeit editions of the popular book and arrested several people.Singh’s book which had created a furor in India, has received an overwhelming response in Pakistan.
Not only intellectuals, but people from different strata of the society have also shown interest in the book, in which Singh has praised Muhammad Ali Jinnah and described him as a leader who had strong faith in united India, while blaming Sardar Patel for the partition in 1947. (ANI)
