It’s raining VVIPs, celebrities at Mohali

Mohali, March 30 (IANS) After the thunderstorm scare over the crucial semifinal match in the cricket World Cup between India and Pakistan, it is now raining VVIPs and celebrities in Chandigarh and Mohali.
A day after rains triggered fears that the semifinal would be washed out, it was clear skies Wednesday. And while the much discussed match continued to draw all attention, two of the most important people coming to watch it found enough limelight too.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was here, and so was his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani with a 45-member delegation.
Accompanying Manmohan Singh on the same flight were his wife Gursharan Kaur, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi.
Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia also arrived on the same flight.
International Cricket Council president and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar reached here Wednesday morning. His party colleague Praful Patel was here too.
Leading Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, director Madhur Bhandarkar, actor Suneil Shetty and actor Vivek Oberoi and his wife were among those who travelled to Mohali, 10 km from Chandigarh, to watch the cricketing action unfold.
Industrialist and IPL team Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia as well as United Breweries Vijay Mallya and his son Siddharth were also there to cheer on India at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium.
Scores of luxury cars, including Mercedes, BMWs, Audis, Land Cruisers and Toyota Camrys, were seen lined up at the Chandigarh airport to pick up the VIPs and celebrities.
