ISI agent living under cover in Punjab arrested
August 3rd, 2010 - 2:11 pm ICT by IANSFerozepur (Punjab), Aug 3 (IANS) A man suspected to be an agent of Pakistan’s spy agency ISI has been arrested with fake identification documents, including a PAN card, voter identity card and driving license, in this border district, police said Tuesday.
Razaullah, 24, had been staying in Ferozepur, about 275 km from the state capital Chandigarh, for the last few months with a fake name, Rakesh Kumar, and running a herbal medicine company.
“Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap and arrested Razaullah, who is an ISI agent from Pakistan, yesterday (Monday),” Sarabjit Singh, investigation officer of the case, told IANS.
“He was staying in the housing board colony here and working as a quack. He is a resident of Lahia district of Pakistan’s Punjab,” the officer added.
A fake PAN card, voter identity card, driving license, matriculation certificate issued from the Punjab School Education Board, a laptop, a computer and two mobile phones have been recovered from Razaullah, Singh said.
“He used to roam around the army cantonment area and many times entered various sensitive defence locations on the pretext of selling medicines,” he added.
The Pakistani national had entered India through Nepal in 2006 and earlier stayed in Ludhiana in Punjab.
“He sent information regarding our defence installations, roads and bridges to Pakistan through the internet. We will try to ascertain his links in the region,” Singh said.
This is the third arrest of a Pakistani spy from this region in less than a month.
An alleged Pakistani spy, Nizam Baksh, was arrested July 22 from Ludhiana. Police recovered various hand-made maps and photographs of army and air force stations, installations, four mobile phones and many other crucial documents related to defence from him.
Another spy Kashif Ali was nabbed from Chandigarh last month. He had been living in the city for over two years in a rented accommodation in Sector 44 under a fake name, Pawan Kumar, police said.
His accomplices in Delhi and Chandigarh had helped him procure a voter identity card and PAN card.
