Islamabad, Nov.14 (ANI): Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, has once again raised the bogie of India’s alleged involvement in Pakistan through Afghanistan, saying it is hindering the goals for achieving success in the ‘war on terror’.
During a meeting with US National Security Advisor Lt. General (Retd) James Jones at the GHQ in Rawalpindi, General Kayani his expressed concern over New Delhi’s role in Afghanistan.
He said India’s presence in Afghanistan might adversely impact efforts to woo moderate Taliban in that country.
“Pakistan cannot tolerate it, as it was tantamount to being counterproductive in the war against terror,” sources quoted General Kayani, as saying.
During the meeting General Kayani apprised Jones about the progress made in the Rah-e-Nijat operations in South Waziristan, a Taliban stronghold.
According to sources, both leaders also discussed the security situation in region and agreed to increase bilateral intelligence sharing.
Earlier, Jones had called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari.
During his meeting with Zardari, the latter raised various issues, including the rehabilitation of IDPs and early reimbursement of coalition support fund (CSF) arrears, The Nation reports. (ANI)
