November 29th, 2010 - 4:00 pm ICT by ANIKuala Lumpur, Nov 29 (ANI): The Shillong Chamber Choir, which is an Indian group based in Shillong, Meghalaya, will be performing in Malaysia on December 15.
According to Bernama, the group of singers-cum-social workers, who take care of street children and aged people with money earned from their programmes, will perform at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
“We sing to earn for the marginalized children. All our team members live together in the same house in Shillong,” the Star Online quoted founder and maestro Neil Nongkynrih as saying.
“We train together and help children from poor backgrounds and those who are mentally-challenged,” he stated.
The versatile troupe, which started in 2001, won the Indian reality television show, India’s Got Talent (Season 2) this year, with its fusion of Bollywood, gospel and jazz.
It also won the World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China this year with gold diplomas in all the three categories - Musica Sacra, Gospel and Popular.
“In Malaysia, our team would love to sing in the national language. Music is a powerful tool. We want to use music to heal and uplift people,” Nongkynrih added. (ANI)
