Islamabad, Oct.26 (ANI): Terming India’s concerns over the safety of its nuclear establishments as ’self-serving’, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Abdul Basit has urged New Delhi to work with Islamabad to establish a ‘regional strategic restraint regime’.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the terror strike outside Pakistan Air Force base in Kamra, which reportedly houses some of the country’s nuclear assets, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao had raised concerns over the safety of the nuclear installations in that country.

Replying to a question regarding Rao’s apprehension, Basit said instead pointing fingers toward Pakistan, India should work with it to promote strategic stability in the region

“Such remarks are evidently self-serving and integral to India’s efforts to seek unilateral advantage at the cost of regional strategic stability by its feverish militarization and working on dangerous military doctrines,” The News quoted Basit, as saying during a regular briefing.

Earlier, Rao had said that New Delhi was aware of the attack and hoped the authorities in Islamabad would ensure the safeguarding of those assets to prevent any untoward incident in the future.

“What I want to say on the issue is that we hope that the Pakistan Government will continue to take steps to effectively secure their nuclear assets,” Rao said.

The bomb attack claimed the lives of eight people.

A Pakistan Air Force official was quick to dispel suggestions on Friday that the Kamra facility was linked to country’s weapons program.

The Pakistan Government has already said that the country’s nuclear infrastructure is safe and faced no threat from the Taliban, which has carried out a series of terror strikes targeting strategic locations including the Army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. (ANI)
