Islamabad, Sep 29 (IANS) There is a “strong possibility” of the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers meeting on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad in late November, a media report Tuesday said.
This would be a follow-up of the two-day talks between their foreign ministers and foreign secretaries in New York over the weekend, Dawn said, quoting diplomatic sources.
The meetings, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, were the first high-level contacts between the two countries since Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani met at the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in July.
When asked at a briefing on Sunday about the next round of talks, Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna said: “We have just come out of one (meeting). So, give us some time.”
On his part, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also indicated that the next logical opportunity for another meeting would be the Commonwealth summit.
Qureshi said he was also willing to travel to India if this might improve public sentiment there towards engagement.
“I have suggested to my counterpart a way forward and a road map for the future,” Qureshi said after the 100-minute meeting with Krishna.
