New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS) India Thursday welcomed as “positive” Pakistan’s probe into 26/11 which said that elements from Pakistan were involved, but reminded Islamabad to take “credible action” and “dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism” in its territory.
Breaking repeated patterns of denial and obfuscation in the past, Pakistan for the first time has admitted the involvement of its nationals in the terror attack on India - a step that New Delhi described as “a positive development”.

“In their official response, the Pakistan authorities have admitted that elements in Pakistan were involved in the terrorist attacks on Mumbai,” the external affairs ministry said in a statement.

“They are still in the process of investigating the attacks, and have taken certain actions, including the arrest of some of those who were involved and filing a first information report,” the ministry said. “This is a positive development,” it added.

Responding to Pakistan’s demand for more information and material relating to the Mumbai atrocity that killed over 170 people, including 26 foreigners, India agreed to examine the issues and will share whatever it can with Pakistan.

New Delhi, however, made it clear that it was determined to pursue the Mumbai attacks to their logical conclusion and asked Islamabad “to take credible steps to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism in Pakistan.”

“It remains India’s goal to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks on Mumbai to book, and to follow this process through to the end,” the ministry said. “We would also expect that the government of Pakistan take credible steps to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism in Pakistan,” it stated.

The Indian government’s response came after Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir gave Islamabad’s official response to India’s dossier to New Delhi’s High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal. India gave a dossier to Pakistan Jan 5 containing material that established connection between elements in Pakistan and the Nov 26 Mumbai attacks.
