India-Pakistan talks nothing but photo-ops: Imran Khan

Manmohan Singh Kolkata, March 26 (IANS) Pakistani cricket legend and politician Imran Khan Saturday welcomed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s attempt to kickstart India-Pakistan talks by inviting top Pakistani leaders to watch the Mohali semi-final between the two countries, but said nothing concrete will come out of it as they are just “photo sessions”.

“It’s good that at least something has started between the two countries. Any dialogue is better than no dialogue. But I don’t feel anything concrete will come out of this meeting except photo sessions and feel-good factor,” Khan said at a programme here.

Manmohan Singh Friday invited Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to watch the World Cup semi-finals March 30. The move is seen as an attempt to ease tensions between the two countries. India and Pakistan stopped their composite dialogue after the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

“The Pakistani government is right now engulfed with various issues and so is the Indian government. That is why I don’t feel any (thing) concrete thing will come out,” said Khan, who led Pakistan to its lone World Cup triumph 1992.

Khan, after retiring from international cricket, entered politics and formed his own party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He was placed under house arrest in Pakistan in 2009 by President Zardari in a crackdown against anti-government protests.
