Lahore, March 20 (IANS) The Asia Cup cricket tournament will after all be played in Pakistan in June-July and India and Pakistan have been placed in Group B along with Hong Kong. Defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates are in Group A.
Announcing the groupings, Asian Cricket Council secretary Ashraful Huq told reporters at the Gadaffi Stadium here that all the teams have confired their participation.
“All the six nations have confirmed their participation and we hope to have a safe and competitive Asia Cup,” Huq said.
All the matches will be day-night with Karachi hosting 10 matches and Lahore the remaining three.
The Asia Cup, which started in 1984, was to be a biennial tournament, but it was not held in 2006 owing to a hectic international calendar.
India have won the competition four times, Sri Lanka thrice and Pakistan once.
