New Delhi, Nov 6 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said he had received no information from Pakistan over a reported Lashkar-e-Taiba terror plot to attack India and called for collective international action to combat terrorism in the region.
“We have not received any information from Pakistan on this issue,” Manmohan Singh told reporters here.

He was responding to a question over a terror plot allegedly hatched by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to attack India involving David Coleman Headley, a US citizen, and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistan-born Canadian citizen and a resident of Chicago. The plot was foiled by the FBI a few days ago.

Earlier in the day, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said there is an “obvious Pakistan link” to Headley. “There is an obvious Pakistan link. Headley visited Pakistan a number of times and I think on the advice of the FBI, two or perhaps more people have been arrested in Pakistan,” he told reporters here.

He was addressing a joint press conference at the end of the 10th India-EU summit with Swedish Prime Minister and chairman of the Swedish presidency of the EU Fredrik Reinfeldt as well as European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso.

“We reviewed the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan and emphasised the need for concerted international action to combat terrorism,” Manmohan Singh said.

“What happens in Afghanistan and Pakistan affects us intimately more than any other country in the world. We have vital stakes in the peace, progress and stability of not only Afghanistan but also Pakistan,” the prime minister said.

“We hope the international community will stay the course in meeting these problems. It requires collective efforts on part of the international community.”

Expanding counter-terror cooperation figured prominently in discussions between Manmohan Singh and the EU leaders at the daylong summit here.

“We have agreed to work towards an early finalisation of the agreement between Europol (the nodal criminal intelligence unit of the EU) and India,” he said.

“India and the EU stand together in combating terrorism which is a serious threat to international peace and security,” said Reinfeldt.
