Karachi, Jan. 6 (ANI): PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has denied plotting any conspiracy against the PPP-led Pakistan Government or President Asif Ali Zardari.

Instead, Sharif said, he would be the first person to come to Zardari’s rescue if any conspiracy was hatched against him.

“Asif Ali Zardari is in the government and he should take action against the conspirators. America will not come here to take action,” The News quoted Sharif as saying.

While saying that the government was threatened by its undemocratic attitude, Sharif pledged that he would not support any move to derail the present democratic set-up, as democracy was the only way to resolve the problems of the people.

He also clarified that he doesn’t have any plans to begin a long march to Islamabad if the 17th Amendment was not repealed.

“I have never said that there would be a long march. (While speaking with PM Gilani), I responded that it was a good thing and even I said that I was ready to accept the ban on third-time premiership, but the 17th Amendment must be undone,” Sharif said.

Sharif said he and former Prime Minister Benazir had struggled for a new democratic Pakistan, but some “elements” did not want democracy to flourish and governments had been toppled time and again.

Nawaz said that the time was ripe to take action against those who had distorted the Constitution and ruined the country, adding his party would continue its efforts to bring such people to justice. (ANI)
