Lahore, Aug 3 (ANI): Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that politics is not for everyone, adding that he would never become a politician.
Aziz said several people had offered him a ticket to contest the 2008 general elections, but he had decided against participating on his family’s insistence.
He told a private TV channel that Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had extended maximum support to him during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Aziz said former president Pervez Musharraf would make his own decision on whether he wanted to join politics.
The former premier denied allegations that he had accepted expensive gifts from foreign dignitaries.
In fact, he added, he had returned almost 150 gifts to the Cabinet Division upon leaving the government.
Aziz said the Ghazi Barotha Power Project was among the major contributions of his government, adding that 3,000 megawatts of electricity had been added to the national grid during his tenure.
Replying to a question, he said Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had been legally reinstated.
Denying allegations that he had fled the country, the former premier said he had been living abroad before becoming premier and preferred to live abroad despite owning a house in Pakistan.
He said he would continue working for the betterment of Pakistan and would visit the country often, the Daily Times reported. (ANI)
