Kuala Lumpur, Mar 28 (ANI): Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF) leader P. Uthayakumar has filed a fourth habeas corpus application in the Malaysian High Court to secure release from detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
Uthayakumar has filed a notice of motion, a supporting affidavit and a certificate of urgency at the court’s criminal registry through his lawyer N. Surendran on Friday, The Star reported.
In the notice of motion, Surendran applied for his client to be freed immediately due to his worsening diabetic condition and injury on his left foot.
In the supporting affidavit, Uthayakumar stated that he had been unjustly detained at the Kamunting camp under the ISA since Dec 13, 2007.
Describing his condition, Uthayakumar said in his affidavit, “I’ve been a diabetic for 14 years. No diabetic diet was given to me in the 15 months that I’ve been in detention. In fact, I was served food-containing sugar in the Malay cooking style. This has further aggravated my health condition.”
Uthayakumar said that his foot initially hit a stone, injuring his left toe due to uneven road conditions, while he was walking to meet his family at the camp on January 31.
He claimed that his foot injury became worse in the following month.
Talking to the reporters after filing the affidavit, Surendran said Uthayakumar was concerned that the condition could lead to the risk of amputation, putting put his life at stake.
The Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh High Courts dismissed Uthayakumar’s three previous habeas corpus applications filed on Feb 26, Sept 8 and Sept 17 last year. (ANI)
