Govt. must answer why Swat operation was inevitable: Imran Khan
May 18th, 2009 - 4:31 pm ICT by ANILahore, May 18 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan has said the government will have to give an answer as to what prompted it to initiate a military operation in the Swat Valley when it could have tried restoring peace in the region through dialogue.
Talking to media persons here, the cricketer-turned-politician said his party would quiz the government during the all-party conference as to why it considered the Swat operation inevitable.
“We’ll ask in the conference what made the government to go for the extreme measure and that too at a time when President Zardari was visiting US President Obama,” the Dawn quoted Khan, as saying.
Khan said the government should also explain that how the extremists succeeded in their nefarious plan in the valley.
Terming the displacement of thousands of people from the valley as the ’success of the extremists’, Khan said the Swat military operation was a rare event where cannons and gunship helicopters were used by a government against its own people.
He said that the army operation has further deteriorated the situation in Waziristan, Swat, Lal Masjid and Balochistan. (ANI)
