Gilani, Zardari for resolution of issues according to constitution
December 22nd, 2009 - 1:59 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Islamabad, Dec. 22 (ANI): Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari to brief him on his meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif.
Sources privy to the meeting between Zardari and Gilani said both leaders discussed the ongoing consultations with allies and other political parties, to tackle the situation arsing after the Supreme Court’s (SC) judgment on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
Sources said Gilani and Zardari also discussed ways to implement the apex court’s verdict and the issue of appointment of new chairman for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
“They (Gilani and Zardari) agreed that issues should be resolved in accordance with the constitution,” The Daily Times quoted the sources, as saying.
Sources said, Gilani told Zardari that his meeting with Sharif was ‘fruitful’, and that it has been agreed that all institutions should work within the role prescribed by the constitution.
Later, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House said the Prime Minister and the Punjab Chief Minister, during their meeting, agreed that all institutions should work ‘within the role prescribed by the constitution.’
“The PPP has adopted a policy of reconciliation and consensus and has taken country’s political leadership on board on all matters of national importance,” the statement quoted Gilani, as saying. (ANI)
