Gilani to stay at Chandigarh hotel hosting both teams (Lead)
March 28th, 2011 - 11:21 pm ICT by IANS Chandigarh, March 28 (IANS) Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will stay at the presidential suite at the luxury Taj Hotel, which is also hosting the Indian and Pakistani cricket teams, as he comes to watch the World Cup semi-final match at Mohali Wednesday.
However, the delegation accompanying Gilani could not find rooms in the hotel because it is fully booked by the teams, officials and ICC top bosses, a hotel official told IANS.
The delegation members will be accommodated at the UT (union territory) guest house here in Sector 6.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Monday said that around 100 members are part of Gilani’s delegation.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur will stay overnight at Punjab Raj Bhawan here.
Chandigarh Police have also enhanced the security cover all across the city to ensure the smooth visit of the dignitaries.
The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium at Mohali, 10 km from Chandigarh, where the semi-final will be played, virtually bears a fortress-like look with hundreds of security personnel deployed both inside and outside the stadium. Traffic restrictions have also been imposed near the stadium.
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is also expected to witness the high-volatage India-Pakistan match.
