Islamabad, Mar 27(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has accepted the invitation of his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh to visit India to watch the much-awaited Indo-Pak semi-final World Cup clash in Mohali on March 30.
According to Presidential House spokesman Farhatullah Babar, Gilani held a two-hour meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, during which it was decided that Gilani would go to India to watch the ‘high voltage’ encounter between the neighbouring countries, Samaa TV reports.
The match will come a day after the Home Secretary-level talks between the two countries on March 28-29.
Official sources say that Gilani will informally meet Dr Singh during the World Cup semi-final, and a formal meeting will be held after the match in which bilateral matters will come under discussion. It is expected that both prime ministers will also discuss cricket diplomacy to improve the Indo-Pak bilateral relations.Officials of Pakistan’s Sports Ministry and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will also be at Mohali to watch the match, Geo TV reports. Meanwhile, Babar has said that Pakistan welcomes Dr Singh’s invitation to President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani to watch the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final match in Mohali.
India and Pakistan have not played in any bilateral series since the Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008. The Pakistan cricketers have also not played in the Indian Premier League since its first edition in early 2008. (ANI)
