London, Aug 22 (ANI): Gary Glitter, the 1970s glam rocker and convicted paedophile, has arrived in Britain after being barred from Hong Kong and Thailand.
Glitter, deported from Vietnam after serving a jail sentence for child sex offenses, was received by around 35 cops, including child abuse specialists, after disembarking from his Thai Airways flight at Heathrow.
He will have to sign the sex offenders” register and police will apply for a sexual offenders prevention order from a magistrates” court to restrict his movements in Britain and ban him from approaching kids.
To coincide with Glitter’’s return, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced a crackdown to stop convicted British paedophiles travelling abroad, reports the Telegraph.
She said that the 64-year-old should not be allowed to travel abroad again, for fear that he would once again seek to exploit vulnerable children.
In a bid to escape repatriation, Glitter flew 2,661 miles from Vietnam to Bangkok, then to Hong Kong, then back to Bangkok.
Each country denied him entry. He spent three days in Asian airports desperately searching for another country willing to take him after at least 19 have turned him down but was left with no option but to return to Britain.
Now, he has demanded round-the-clock police protection over fears he could be murdered, which would cost the taxpayer 250,000 pounds a year. (ANI)
