Lahore, Mar 5(ANI): Four German nationals, who were arrested in Lahore on Friday for not having their travel documents, have been released after the verification of their credentials.

Policemen had taken them to a nearby police station as they had failed to produce their passports and other travelling documents initially.

According to a report, the police had found snapshots on their cameras of the railway headquarters and other sensitive areas nearby.

Later, the German nationals called someone at the hotel, who reached the police station and showed their passports and other travelling documents to the police investigators.

After the verification of their documents, the policemen released all of them with due respect, The Nation reports.

One of the German traders told reporters that it was their fault as they forget to keep their documents and passports along with them, and also thanked the policemen for cooperating with them and providing them proper guidelines.

Police sources said the German nationals were actually traders, who frequently visit the Punjab Capital to import precious carpets for Germany and other western countries.

A nationwide crackdown has been launched against foreign citizens living illegally in Pakistan in the aftermath of the arrest of US national Aaron Mark DeHaven on ‘illegal stay’ charges.

The government has been concerned in recent weeks by the presence of foreign citizens in Pakistan, particularly following the January 27 shootings in Lahore by suspected CIA operative Raymond Davis, in which two Pakistani men were killed. (ANI)
