Five police officials suspended for ‘dereliction of duty’ over Lahore shrine attacks
July 5th, 2010 - 6:42 pm ICT by ANILahore, July 5 (ANI): Punjab Inspector-General of Police Tariq Saleem Dogar on Monday suspended five police officials, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for dereliction of duty resulting in last week’s terror strike on Hazrat Data Gunj Bukhsh shrine.
Dogar dismissed the officials with immediate effect after preliminary reports over the twin suicide attack pointed out that the officials were indeed negligent in their duties.
The suspended officials include DSP Ahmad Nawaaz Shah, Station House Officer (SHO) Lower Mall Inspector Nazir Ahmed Upal, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Aslam and Constables Nasir Ali and Tahir, The Dawn reports.
At least 42 people were killed and over 175 injured when two suicide attackers stormed the famous shrine last Thursday.
Security agencies are still groping in dark over the tragic incident as they have failed to make any headway in the probe and nab the mastermind of the attack.
Both the federal and provincial governments have passed on the responsibility and blamed each other for the attack. (ANI)
