Five killed in Pakistan suicide blast (Lead)
November 17th, 2011 - 3:47 am ICT by IANSIslamabad, Nov 17 (IANS) At least three suicide bombers and two police officials were killed in a blast in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi Wednesday night, a media report said.
The blast blew up a white colour car near Salt n Pepper village restaurant at Sea View beach of the city, the Dawn reported.
One policeman was also injured in the incident.
The suicide bombers, who were riding a white Suzuki Bolan, blew themselves up after they were stopped for routine search by the police, said Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the area amid fear of further terrorist attacks after the blast, the minister said while announcing Rs. 2 million as compensation for next of kin of the killed policemen and Rs. 500,000 for the wounded.
The Sindh Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah, described the incident as “a cowardly act of terrorism” foiled by the police with great courage.
The police found a suicidal vest and a Kalashnikov from the site of blast, he said.
