Five killed as suicide bombers target Pakistan shrine (Lead)
October 7th, 2010 - 10:16 pm ICT by IANSKarachi, Oct 7 (IANS) At least five people were killed and more than 60 injured after two suicide bombers blew themselves up at the entrance of a popular shrine in this city Thursday, a senior police official said.
The twin blasts occurred within an interval of minutes at the gate of Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine in Clifton, where a large number of devotees gather every Thursday, Geo TV reported quoting DIG South, Iqbal Mehmood, and hospital sources.
The bombers’ heads have been recovered from the blast site where severed limbs and human flesh lay scattered, sources said.
Head of Emergency, Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Seemi Jamali put the number of injured at 60, the report said.
The incident occurred on a day when President Asif Ali Zardari was in the metropolis. The shrine is located not far from Bilawal House, residence of President Zardari.
Rangers and heavy contingents of police have arrived at the scene. Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza also arrived at the scene immediately after the blasts.
