Taliban Islamabad, Oct 26 (ANI): The Pakistani Taliban was responsible for former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination in 2007, the Federal Investigation Agency has found out.

The FIA is likely to submit its investigation report before an anti-terrorism court on October 30, the Dawn reported.

The fresh investigation report has accused slain Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud of masterminding her killing, it added.

According to sources, the FIA team was reluctant to submit the challan before the court because it could not complete its investigation regarding three absconders in the case, Abdur Rehman, Saddam and Faiz Mohammad.

The investigation report, however, is now saying that the three absconders were killed in a military operation in tribal areas, the paper said.

Five other accused- Rafaqat, Hussain, Sher Zaman, Aitzaz Shah and Abdul Rashid- all identified as members of the TTP, have already been arrested.

The head of the FIA’s team, Khalid Mehmood, admitted that the investigation had not been completed, but he did not deny that its report was being presented before the court on October 30, the paper added. But this raises a question how an incomplete report can be produced in a court.

Earlier, the UN Commission had said in its report on Benazir’s murder that blaming the TTP leader for the assassination before the completion of investigations was tantamount to throwing the investigation off the scent. (ANI)
