Larkana, Jan 13 (ANI): Failing the 48-hour deadline given by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to President Pervez Musharraf regime to allow a UN probe into Benazir Bhuttos assassination, the PPP has decided to send a request on its own to the UN to probe the killing.
It may be recalled that on Thursday evening the PPP had given a 48-hour deadline to Musharraf regime to ask for a UN probe, failing which it will on its own ask for it.
Announcing the decision, the party said that it had not received any reply from the government to its demand.
They said that in an interview to a French newspaper, Musharraf had clearly stated that the government would not request the UN for a commission to probe the killing in December, reported the Dawn.
In the interview, Musharraf was quoted as saying: “This is not possible. Is another country involved? Pakistan is not Lebanon. Such a probe is more appropriate in cases where two or more countries are involved. It’s a simple murder. We have our own institutions and we can count on the help of Scotland Yard. I hope that the investigation report will be made public before the elections.”
By saying “Pakistan is not Lebanon” Musharraf apparently referred to the implication of Syrian officials in the Hariri killing. (ANI)
