Facebook row fuels demand for American flags in Pakistan

Islamabad, May 26 (ANI): A Facebook controversy in Pakistan has led to an increase in demand for American and Israeli flag replicas that are being used for burning at protest rallies.
Flag maker Mamoon-ur-Rasheed, 31, is quite happy with the good business he is getting. “I have nothing to do with any political party, but it is really enjoyable when you see your work on TV screens,” Rasheed said.
“I’m busy every day making banners and placards for different religious and political parties, but work gets a boost, especially when international controversy concerning Muslims breaks out,” he added.
The controversy gained momentum when a Facebook user organised an ‘Everyone Draw Mohammed Day’ contest to promote freedom of expression. Islamic activists in the South-Asian country were left fuming after the incident that led to a big dispute.
The Pakistani protestant groups contact Rasheed when they need flags for protest rallies, reports The News.
“We have received continuous orders for American and Israeli flags. Normally we paint them but when demand surges into the hundreds we print these flags to get them to our clients in time,” Rasheed said.
