Even Ramazan does not prevent Islamabad’s police officers from gambling
September 8th, 2010 - 5:06 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Sept.8 (ANI): The Capital Territory Police (CTP) in Islamabad is being accused of having a significant role in promoting the Pakistan capital as a paradise for gamblers.
The Daily Times quoted sources as saying that some police officers and their juniors are actively involved in the gambling business and are protecting the gamblers because they have no fear of being arrested.
The report further said police officials residing in police stations and Police Lines Headquarters are known to play cards and bet on games on a routine basis.
Some officials have become habitual gamblers, and usually lose their whole salary in gambling immediately after receiving it. They then resort to extorting bribe from people by using different tactics.
So ingrained is the habit, that they even gamble during the fasting month of Ramazan.
A federal police officer speaking on condition of anonymity told the Daily Times that playing cards was the best way to pass the time during Ramazan.
He said it was in the knowledge of police high-ups that most of the officials were gamblers, but they don’t take action, as some police officers also gamble.
Ministry of Interior should take notice of this habit of police officials.
Sources said that when attempts were made to contact Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam and Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam on their cell phones, they was no response. (ANI)
