December 18th, 2009 - 5:46 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Brussels, Dec.18 (ANI): The European Parliament, while raising serious concerns over the way in which Gilgit-Baltistan is being administered by Pakistan, has tabled a written declaration on the threat facing the region from Islamabad.
The draft, which has been counter signed by eight members of the European Parliament, said that the European Union (EU) is concerned about the developments in South Asia, particularly Pakistan.
“Whereas concerning Pakistan the EU is particularly worried about Gilgit Baltistan a part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir administered from Islamabad,” the declaration stated.
The declaration asked the European Council (EC) to minimise its financial aid to Pakistan, until it succeeds to eradicate the terrorist groups functioning from its soil.
It called upon the Pakistan government to allow the international media and human rights organisation free access to Gilgit Baltistan, and give full representative democracy and freedom to the people of region.
The declaration also asked Islamabad to invite a representative of the EU to undertake a study of the region. The representatives would be nominated by the EU itself in consultation with the European Parliament. (ANI)
