Eight killed in Pakistan blast (Lead)

Islamabad, May 28 (IANS) At least eight people were killed and 12 injured in a blast Saturday morning in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region bordering Afghanistan, a media report said.
The blast took place at a marketplace in Salarzai area of Bajaur Agency, Geo News reported.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and rescue operation has started. Police were trying to ascertain the nature of the blast.
Xinhua reported that the blast took place at about 10.55 a.m. inside a tea shop where some anti-Taliban local tribal leaders were sitting together.
It was a planted bomb, witnesses said, adding that seven shops near the blast site were also destroyed.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Bajaur is one of the seven tribal areas, which constantly face terrorist attacks.
