Dissident PPP leaders complain of phone tapping
November 26th, 2009 - 6:39 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Islamabad, Nov.26 (ANI): ‘Dissident’ leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has accused the government of tapping the telephone lines of several senior party leaders, saying their activities were being monitored by secret agencies.
The leaders said the agencies were acting on the directives of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
Some of the dissidents also complained that their names always remained on the ‘target list’ regardless of the fact which party is ruling the country, clearly indicating that such ’secret agencies’ have never been under the control of the civilian government.
The general view in the party is that PPP activists had always been under surveillance because the establishment and the military never trusted the party, The Dawn reports.
A senior PPP leader said it is unfortunate that their activities were being monitored and phones tapped at a time when their own party is in power not only in the centre, but also in all the provinces. (ANI)
