Davis had ID card of US consulate in Peshawar

Lahore, Feb 20(ANI): The identity card recovered from double-murder accused US diplomat Raymond Davis is not of the US Consulate in Lahore, but of that in Peshawar.

The ID card represents Davis as an employee of the US Consulate in Peshawar instead of the Lahore Consulate, Geo News quoted sources, as saying.

The US consulate number mentioned on the ID card is 4819151, the sources added.

While Davis confessed to shooting dead two men in Lahore on January 27, allegedly in self-defence, a third Pakistani was struck and killed by another vehicle that was reportedly coming to Davis’ aid.

Davis is in a high-security detention centre in Lahore and is expected to stay there until a court hearing next month, despite repeated demands by the US to release him immediately on the grounds of diplomatic immunity.

The Davis detention issue seems to be taking its toll on US-Pak relations, which were already strained over stepped-up drone strikes in Pakistan’s militant-infested tribal region and disagreements over the war in neighbouring Afghanistan. (ANI)
