Court moved to prevent Pak govt from providing Davis with immunity from sentence
February 15th, 2011 - 4:08 pm ICT by ANILahore, Feb 15(ANI): Statements made by former Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Information Minister Fauzia Wahab about double-murder accused US diplomat Raymond Davis’ immunity status have been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
Advocate Azhar Siddique filed an application in the LHC, saying that it seemed the government was looking to provide Davis with immunity and hand him over to the United States.
The petitioner noted that while PPP leader Wahab told the media that Davis enjoyed diplomatic immunity, Qureshi denied this and said that the US official did not possess any such immunity.
Siddique said that there was a possibility of a deliberate change in the arrested American’s record, and that Wahab and Qureshi should be summoned to the court.
The court should include both Qureshi and Wahab in the Raymond Davis case and their statements should be recorded to hold the government accountable, the applicant added. (ANI)
