Contempt of court action must against “two sides of forged coin” Zardari, Gilani: JI chief
February 15th, 2010 - 2:38 pm ICT by ANILahore, Feb. 15 (ANI): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hasan has called for a contempt of court action against Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani over the issuance of ‘illegal’ orders for the appointments of superior judges.
The Daily Times quoted Hasan as saying that Gilani was fully aware of the intentions behind presidential orders, and thus he was not innocent.
He went on to call Zardari and Gilani “two sides of a forged coin”.
According to Hasan, the present situation proved that the PPP-led government had declared a showdown with the state institutions.
He was of the view that the present judicial crisis was likely to dent the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) reputation.
Answering a question, he said the state institutions were heading towards a confrontation, which would further deteriorate the country’s situation.
Hasa, however, lauded the two judges, Justice Khawaja Sharif and Justice Saqib Nisar, for not accepting the presidential orders of their promotion.
He said that the JI along with other political parties and civil society would stage a demonstration outside the Supreme Court to express solidarity with the judiciary. (ANI)
