New Delhi, May 28 (ANI): Union Home Ministry has issued fresh advisories to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and National Capital Region prior to Thursdays NCR shutdown call given by Gujjar community.
Six passenger trains to north India have been cancelled and five were diverted due to the ongoing agitation by members of the Gujjar community in Rajasthan demanding Scheduled Tribe status.
Till Tuesday, five trains had been cancelled but one more has been cancelled on Thursday due to the increasing violence in Rajasthan, a spokesperson for Western Railways said.
Four daily express trains to north India had been cancelled while three were diverted from May 24 onwards. From Wednesday six trains have been cancelled and five being diverted.
Railways have suffered huge losses worth crores of rupees due to the ongoing Gujjar agitation, a Northern Railways official said.
During the last five days, starting from May 23 to 27, Northern Railways has refunded Rs 2,29,02,948 to 36,580 passengers having reserved tickets of the cancelled and diverted trains at New Delhi, Delhi and Nizamuddin railway stations, the official said.
The unreserved passengers numbering 6,410 were paid Rs 9,61,415 in return of their tickets. (ANI)
