British High Commission denies visa to Pak blind cricket team
August 13th, 2009 - 5:08 pm ICT by ANILahore, Aug.13 (ANI): Pakistan blind cricket team has been refused visas by the British High Commission in Islamabad.
According to a press release of the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC), the British High Commission denied giving visas to the blind cricketers following which their tour to England was cancelled.
“With utter disappointment, the PBCC would like to inform that the visas of Pakistan Blind cricket team for the tour of England have been refused by the British High Commission,” the statement said.
The PBCC was invited by the England and Wales blind cricket association, and despite obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan government players were not given the required documents to travel to Britain.
PBCC said British High Commission’s denial has forced the players to think that they are a neglected part of the society.
“The world champion blind cricketers are forced to think that being the underprivileged part of society their fundamental rights of even playing cricket are being denied,” the statement said. (ANI)
