Islamabad, Jan 17 (IANS) British High Commissioner Adam Thomson Tuesday called on Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar in Islamabad and discussed matters related to enhancing bilateral relations, the foreign ministry said.
Khar expressed satisfaction over the “Pakistan-UK National Security Discussions” held in Islamabad in November 2011, and said the “Enhanced Strategic Dialogue” between the two countries, launched during British Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to Pakistan in April last year, was a landmark development that had opened new vistas for bilateral cooperation.
The Pakistani foreign minister emphasised the importance of expanding economic relations, and said her country offered enormous trade and investment opportunities, the Online news agency reported citing a foreign ministry statement.
On behalf of Foreign Secretary William Hague, the high commissioner passed on an official invitation to Khar to visit London next month to review the progress achieved by the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue.
Khar said Pakistan has always pursued a foreign policy according to the principles laid out in the UN Charter. She said Pakistan was looking forward to contributing constructively to the UN Security Council work during its two-year term as a non-permanent member.
