Brit angler achieves Holy Grail of fishing!May 31st, 2008 - 1:03 pm ICT by admin
London, May 31 (ANI): A Brit angler has created history to become the world’s greatest fisherman after spending 18 years globe-trotting 150,000 miles to achieve the Holy Grail of fishing.
The 65-year-old Zyg Gregorek, is the first recreational fisherman anywhere to catch eight species of tuna, nine of shark and ten of billfish.
Each of these feats is known to anglers as a Royal Slam.
Gregorek completed his royal slams when he landed a 200lb thresher shark off San Diego a species he had been trying to catch since 2004.
It is the end of a personal journey. It has cost a bomb but it was worth it, The Sun quoted Gregorek, as saying.
His tally included longtail and skipjack tuna, mako and great white shark and billfish types sailfish and marlin.
Rob Kramer, president of the Florida-based International Game Fish Association, said: To achieve one Royal Slam is impressive but to get all three is unheard of. (ANI)
