Bollywood films dominate Pakistani theatres this Eid
November 28th, 2009 - 2:17 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Islamabad, November 28 (ANI): Pakistani theatres have been missing Lollywood produces this Eid, thanks to the dominance of Indian movies.
Cinemas, including DHA Cinema, Sozo World, Cine Star and Metropole were said to be running only new English and Indian movies namely ‘Jail’, ‘Tum Mile’ and ‘De Dana Dun’.
No Pakistani movie was allegedly being screened despite the release of four native films on Eid, reports the Daily Times.
Film Exhibitors Association of Pakistan Chairman Zoraiz Lashari said: “For the first time in the history of the country, no major Pakistani film is being released on Eid this year.
“The government should look into the situation and prevent the industry from facing a absolute debacle. When there are no Pakistani movies available in the market, the government should devise a clear policy on Indian movies so that people could have some sort of entertainment.”
Film exhibitor Jehanzeb Beg said that the difference between the demand and supply was too huge, with cinemas needing about 40 to 50 movies every year, but Lollywood producing only 6 to 8.
He added: “Cinemas need to screen movies to run their business and Indian movies fill this gap. The urban population comes to cinemas because of Indian movies.” (ANI)
