Bangalore , May 6 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today came down heavily on U.S. President George Bush for his controversial statement on the food habits of Indians and how they were contributing to the global food crisis.
Talking to ANI after addressing an election rally in the Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency in Bangalore, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu termed the statement as irresponsible.
”There are 350 million people in India who are classified as middle class. Their middle class is larger than our entire population. And when you start getting wealth, you start demanding better nutrition and better food. And so demand is high, and that causes the price to go up,” the US President had said during a visit to World Wide Technology, Inc. in Missouri.
Naidu claimed that Washington and particularly President Bush had no business to comment on Indian food habits, when it was an established fact that Americans consumed far more junk food than any other community in other parts of the world.
He said that if anybody needed to change their food habits, it was the Americans.
Naidu also said that the BJP would not have any truck with any party after the poll results were announced. he said he was confident about the BJP forming the next government in Karnataka, as they were fighting on the key issues of inflation and politics of betrayal.
On the possible return of S M Krishna to Karnataka politics and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Karnataka, he said that it would have no great impact on the poll results in the state. (ANI)
