Banned militant outfits turning Pak Punjab situation worse than SwatJanuary 23rd, 2009 - 1:07 pm ICT by ANI
Islamabad, Jan 23 (ANI): Pakistani parliamentarians fear that the law and order situation in Punjab might grow worse than that of the Swat Valley, pointing to the activities of banned militant organizations in the province.
PML-Q MNA Shaikh Waqas Akram and PML-N legislator Rashid Akbar Nawani slammed the government for not paying attention to the growing influence of the banned religious organizations in their respective districts, The Nation reported.
Sheikh Waqas Akram was of the view that if the government did not nip the evil in the bud, the situation in Punjab too might go out of control, like in Swat.
I am drawing the governments attention to the increasing activities of the banned religious outfits in Jhang District where militants have been active for the last four months, but the law enforcement agencies have not taken any notice so far, he said.
The activities of the banned religious organizations are going on un-checked in Jhang where militants move around in double cabin vehicles with modern and sophisticated weapons, he further said.
The banned militant organizations have increased their activities in Jhang and the persons from other areas of the country, who are prohibited according to Fourth Schedule to enter any district without prior permission of the authorities, are freely moving in Jhang District, Akram added.
Nawani said that police supported the banned outfits in Bhakhar District, where militants even take arms inside police stations.
He also said that agencies report everything about the activities of the politicians, but turn a blind eye to the militants activities.
Nawani warned that the law and order situation in entire Punjab province might become worse than that of the tribal and Swat areas if militants activities remained unchecked. (ANI)
