Ban pledges UN support for Pakistan

Islamabad, Feb 4 (IANS) The UN will assist Pakistan in tackling the challenges it is facing, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said here Wednesday. Addressing a press conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Ban said a prosperous Pakistan is in the interest of all.

The UN chief lauded Pakistan’s peace efforts in the world, the Geo TV reported.

Ban expressed grief on the kidnapping of a UN official and slaying of his driver in Pakistan a few days ago.

Gilani said Pakistan is deeply committed to the vision and charter of the UN.

“We assure full support to the UN for its various programmes underway in different parts of the world for the cause of establishing peace,” he said.
