Auckland jury retires for third day from Indian-origin liquor store owner’s trial
March 3rd, 2010 - 2:38 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Mar. 3 (ANI): An Auckland High Court jury has ended the third day’s deliberations in Indian-origin south Auckland liquor store owner Navtej Singh’s June 2008 murder without a verdict.
The jury that was adjourned after 15 hours of deliberations was meant to ascertain whether seven people are guilty of various charges in connection with the June 2008 fatal shooting of Singh, Stuff.co.nz reports.
The jury will resume at 9.30am tomorrow morning.
They began discussions about 2.35 pm on Monday after Justice Graham Lang concluded his summary of the case in the month-long trial.
Singh, 30, was working at Riverton Liquor, in Manurewa, when he was felled by a single shot during the hold-up. He died in hospital the next day.
Six people have been accused of Singh’s murder - Anitilea Chan Kee, Myron Felise, Tino Felise, Eti Filoa, Walter McCarthy and Jason Naseri. A seventh, Mefiposeta Chan-Kee, is charged with being an accessory after the killing.
Tino Felise, Filoa and McCarthy also face charges of aggravated robbery. Anitilea Chan-Kee, Myron Felise and Naseri have previously admitted charges of aggravated robbery.
Anitlea Chan-Kee has admitted shooting Singh but claims that he didn’t know that the gun was loaded when he accidentally pulled the trigger. (ANI)
