Atleast 3 killed in Rawalpindi General Headquarters terrorist attack
October 10th, 2009 - 1:27 pm ICT by BNO NewsRAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) — Unidentified gunmen attacked the headquarters of the Pakistani Army in Rawalpindi on Saturday morning, according to local media reports. At least several people were reported dead while the incident continues.
Up to seven people may have been involved in the attack, who were said to have traveled to the base in a Suzuki. When stopped by army personnel for routine checking at an army checkpost, according to GEO TV, the gunmen opened fire and threw up to five hand grenades.
Army soldiers surrounded the vehicle and returned fire, according to the channel. Another local television station, Express News, reported that at least three people had been killed, including two of the attackers. Two attackers were also arrested, it said.
A large area has been cordoned off and army helicopters are hovering over the scene as the attack continues.
