Lahore, Jan 11 (ANI): The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Chairperson Asma Jehangir has accused the Government of declaring a war upon the people of Pakistan in a game of high stakes.

Unarmed people did not know whether to fight the suicide bombers, the dictator or the establishment. We do not even know what relationship all these people have among themselves. The Dawn quoted Jehangir, as saying.

She also said the assassination of Benazir Bhutto had given rise to lots of questions. If the government knew about the threat to her life, what did it do? They have allowed it to happen.

She expressed her doubts on involvement of Jihadis in suicide bombing on the Lahore High Court on Thursday by saying that the world knew who the lawyers were against.

She said even if we assume Jihadis were behind the attack, then who are there to blame the existence of groups like Al-Badr?

Asma ruled out the involvement of any religious group in the attack as lawyers represent a multi-religious community.

She criticised the government for the suicide attack, as it was its responsibility to maintain law and order and protection of the lives of the citizens.

Asma Jehangir also questioned the investigation; she said There can be no investigation when people suspected the government. People have the suspicion in their hearts. In such a situation, who would investigate and reveal the facts?

She pressed the need for the united effort from all the political party leaders to come out with a joint strategy to take the country forward.

She suggested that Musharraf should be tried for high treachery for pushing the country down the abyss of disaster and killing Nawab Akbar Bugti. (ANI)
