Another ISI agent held in Tripura
September 3rd, 2010 - 3:20 pm ICT by IANSAgartala, Sep 3 (IANS) An agent of Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border in west Tripura, police said here Friday.
BSF troopers detained ISI agent Nayeem Ahmed Mamoon, 22, from Lankamura border on the outskirts of Agartala Thursday night while he was crossing the border towards Bangladesh, a police spokesman said.
Mamoon is the second ISI agent to be arrested in Tripura since July. According to police, both the ISI agents entered India from Bangladesh and visited other northeastern states as well.
The BSF patrolling party recovered from Mamoon some Pakistani currency, Pakistan and Bangladesh banks documents, bank pass-books, fake identity cards, photographs and train tickets. Mamoon is a resident of Gopalganj, a township near Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
The BSF handed him over to Tripura Police.
“During preliminary interrogation, Mamoon told the police that he entered India from Bangladesh two months back via Murshidabad of West Bengal. From West Bengal, he went to various northeastern states and came to Tripura to return to Bangladesh,” the police official told reporters.
“Mamoon has stayed at Anantnag in Kashmir Valley for sometime, and is suspected to have laiason with banned outfits,” he said.
A local court Friday sent Mamoon to 10 days’ police custody for further questioning.
Another ISI spy, Manir Khan alias Omar Ashraf, 30, and his six Indian associates were arrested July 3 in Agartala.
A five-member police team of Assam took Manir and his associates to Guwahati earlier this week for further interrogation, officials said.
