There was an earthquake in Nias Region, Indonesia with the magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake occured Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 03:12:24 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time ) and Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 10:12:24 AM at epicenter local time as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter is 235 km (145 miles) W of Sibolga, Sumatra, Indonesia, 300 km (185 miles) SW of Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia, 575 km (360 miles) WSW of KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 1410 km (880 miles) NW of JAKARTA, Java, Indonesia.
Previously there was an earthquake on September 30th, 2008 measuring 5.2 richter scale at Kepulauan Talaud, Indonesia. On 28 March 2005, there was a massive earthquake in the west coast of northern Sumatra on the island of Nias which killed approximately 1,300 people.
