Karachi, Aug 3 (ANI): Al Qaeda and Taliban linked militant outfit, Jundullah, has resurfaced after a-year-and-a-half, plotting terror activities and target killings in the port city, according to police officials.
Underground militant organisation Jundullah, also known as ‘Army of God’, was established by Sheikh Ataur Rehman alias Umer alias Ibrahim alias Zubair.
Rehman, who holds an MSc degree from Karachi University was trained in Afghanistan and later, he established the militant organisation in 2003.
At present, Rehman is imprisoned in Karachi Central Jail after the Anti-Violent Crime Unit arrested him in 2003 from his house in Model Colony.
The organisation is presently being run by al Qaeda commander Hamza Jofy alias Haji Mumtaz, an Arab militant, who is operating it from Miran Shah, thye Daily Times reports.
The organisation had gone underground following a three-hour long encounter with law enforcers in Shah Latif area on January 29, 2008, in which four Jundullah militants and two police officers were killed while a key member Qasim Toori was arrested.
But after a raid at a house in Shah Latif area some days ago, officials believe that the terrorist outfit is back in action.
On July 20, a man named Ghulam Mustafa killed his neighbour and fled after the murder in a white color Honda City car bearing registration number AFT-790.
The police conducted a raid at the suspect’s house in Shah Latif area where they discovered four live bombs, hand grenades, Jihadi literature, police uniforms, pistol, mobile SIM cards and others items.
It was then found that Ghulam Mustafa was a Jundullah militant and residing there along with his wife Kazbano.
“Ghulam Mustafa and two of his organisation members Haider and Waqas, who frequently visited his house, were plotting terror activities,” said Investigation Officer Mukhtiar Sariyo. (ANI)
