Afghanistan a safe haven for terrorists: Pakistan

July 15th, 2011 - 8:08 pm ICT by IANS

Islamabad, July 15 (IANS/AKI) Terrorists from Pakistan have found safe havens in Afghanistan from where they launch cross-border attacks, a top Pakistani official has said.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general Athar Abbas claimed that terrorists from Pakistan’s Swat region were reportedly in Kunar and Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan.

Abbas said prominent militant leaders - Fazalullah, Faqir Muhammad, Abdul Wali and Hakimullah - had hideouts in these areas.

Pakistan has conveyed “its well-founded concerns” to the NATO which was pulling out its troops from these areas.

Abbas said although the Pakistani army could not directly act in Kunar, a commission has been set up in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar to see what possible action could be taken.
